Monkeys infected with COVID-19 escape truck after accident
Monkeys infected with herpes and COVID-19 escaped a truck that overturned in Jasper County.
Why are we giving herpes to these poor monkeys, and even worse, COVID-19!!!
Initial information from the sheriff’s office said the monkeys were said to be carrying hepatitis C, herpes and COVID. They were described as 40 pounds and “aggressive” to humans, requiring personal protective equipment to handle.
Officials said the monkeys left the wreck site, and so had to be shot, with one still on the run
Tulane University has disputed information about the monkeys having infectious diseases.
“Non-human primates at the Tulane National Biomedical Research Center are provided to other research organizations to advance scientific discovery. The primates in question belong to another entity and are not infectious. We are actively collaborating with local authorities and will send a team of animal care experts to assist as needed.”
Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries is also on site with local law enforcement.
